History

The PWF mission statement is identified as "To unite and mobilize the global Spirit-filled family in completing the Great Commission of Jesus Christ."  [19] "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Matthew 28:19-20

While meeting in Johannesburg in 2004, the Pentecostal World Fellowship Advisory Committee, recognizing the needs in our world for the spreading of the gospel, mandated a commission to address the missionary vision and work, as well as the relief and development activities of its members. In 2005, under the leadership of Dr. Arto Hämäläinen, this commission was established to serve the community of Pentecostal missions’ organizations across the globe.

In 2008, the commission gathered in Helsinki, Finland, where they established the purpose, vision, and guidelines of how they would move forward. Additionally, they established an executive committee to lead the commission in their endeavors. In the years to come, the members moved to proactively engaging in conversations, writing informative essays, and advocated for the Kingdom in the face of adversary across the globe.

In 2014, the PWF WMC proposed the adoption of the World Alliance for Pentecostal World Missions Networking and Research Center as part of its structure. This action established a permanent participation on the WAPTE board. Additionally, the network discussed the need to bring along younger leaders to the table. In 2016, the commission members targeted younger leaders among their organizations to be apart of WMC's endeavors. In 2016, the PWF recognized the need of the persecuted Christians and the WMC stepped in to take care of that request. Through many discussions and collaborations, a joint commission was named the Pentecostal Commission on Religious Liberty (PCRL).

The World Conference united the Pentecostal movement, despite doctrinal and governance distinctives, through the recognition of how the Holy Spirit was moving and working through the and in each individual group.  This idea, the Lead Team worked to established the WMC Relief and Development Network. Their first Summit was held January 2021 in Oklahoma City, USA. The primary objectives remain true to the founding vision to connect Spirit-filled networks, recognizing spirit-empowered leaders, and foster support for global evangelization. The WMC is committed furthering the gospel across the globe no matter the cost and will not stop until all have heard the good news of Jesus Christ.
